The Keys of Batik Business

By : Elizabet Ayu Angeliia owner KOKAIND

Batik is an Indonesian famous heritage that the name has been spread all over the world. The word Batik itself stand for the technique of fabric pattern making. Batik came from the Javanese words Amba and Nitik which means an activity of drawing dots to make a beautiful pattern. The thing that make Batik so precious is that it is made by using wax as a color resist. A plain fabric will be painted with wax so that it will block the color in the dying process and results in a beautiful Batik pattern. The complicated Javanese Batik pattern requires a long time making process. It can take weeks or even months.

Many people have tried Batik Business and not few of them failed. Some sell the Batik as a fabric with Indonesian classic pattern, contemporary pattern, and also abstract pattern. Many people sell batik as a creative products as bags, shoes, clothes, and many more. There are many ways to make a Batik Business.  Batik is still a promising business if we know the keys. Here are some keys to make a successful Batik Business.

First, the costumer segmentation is an important point. We need to choose who will be our costumer in order to make a product decision in an affordable price. The price should match the quality of the Batik itself. Second, make product differentiation. Based on the costumer segment we chose, we know what product we are going to sell. The product must be unique and different to others. For example we make a Batik clothing line. We should carry our own fashion style so that it will be our specialty. Third, since Batik is a work of art, it is better for us to give product knowledge.  It is hand painted fabric created with skill and creativity and to give a knowledge about the making process and the story behind the pattern will exactly add more value.

By applying those keys, Batik Business can be a promising business for everyone who dare to start. Risk will always follows but, chances come for those who take risk. The last thing is love what you do and say no to give up! So, what are we waiting for? The first step to start is by starting!
